In the 22 years since what is arguably first research paper on the topic of Speech Emotion Recognition was published, the field has come a long way — SRE technologies by the names of Alexa, Cortana, Siri, and many others are now on the consumer market on a broader basis than ever. But do any of them truly notice our emotions and react to them like a human conversational partner would?
