DARPA’s mission is to make early investments in science and technology that will have a positive impact on the nation’s security.
DARPA’s work includes:
Artificial Intelligence (AI): DARPA has been a leader in AI research for over 50 years. Their AI Exploration (AIE) program is a key part of their strategy to maintain a technological advantage in AI.
High-risk, high-payoff research: DARPA’s Defense Sciences Office (DSO) pursues high-risk, high-payoff research initiatives across a wide range of science and engineering disciplines.
Digital twins: DARPA is creating digital twins of microbes and mammals.
Predictive models: DARPA is developing methods for sparse data sets in predictive models.
DARPA works with a variety of partners, including universities, industry, small businesses, and the government. They publicize funding opportunities through Broad Agency Announcements (BAAs), which request proposals for specific areas of research and development.
